Who I am
John-Paul Gunter
Hi, I am John-Paul. I am a high school senior, and I am the founder of Swim Teen - Healthy Teen.
As a teenager, I know what it is like to deal with bullying at school, and it really makes me sad. There have been times when I have felt lonely or anxious for no clear reason. But then, during my freshman year, I joined my high school swim team, and honestly, it changed everything for me!
Swimming has become my go-to whenever I feel overwhelmed, anxious or sad. When I dive into the water, it's like all my worries float away. The rhythm of the strokes helps me clear my mind. With every lap, I focus on my breathing and the movement of my body, which distracts me from all these negative feelings. It's a kind of meditation in motion, where I can channel my emotions into something productive.
Through swimming, I have clearer thoughts, I have fortified my self-esteem, and have found amazing friends and created beautiful relationships with a lot of people. I go to a lot of swimming events all year long, so I am always surrounded by swimmers like me, who are usually positive and fun to be with, and our families and friends, who cheer for us no matter what.
Swimming has made me a better person, and I feel the responsibility to share this with my peers, because if it has worked for me, I am sure it will work for you too!
I want to make sure that more kids my age not only enjoy the teenage years but also have the tools they need to thrive and reach their full potential. I believe Swim Teen - Healthy Teen can make a real difference in the world!
